About your treatment
Initial acupuncture treatment visit
Please be prepared to stay for approximately 1-1.5 hours on the first treatment, which includes the initial consultation and treatment. This includes talking about the nature of your main complaint, any other complaints, your health history and general health.
Following this, there is a brief examination. This involves palpating your pulse, examining your tongue and taking your blood pressure if necessary. Pulse taking is an integral part of Chinese medicine and we tend to take your pulses often throughout your treatments. The pulse reading give acupuncturists information about your health as well as how the treatment is progressing.
Acupuncture needles will be placed into acupoints, which are located along the meridians in which Qi (Chi) flows through. Everything in life is imbued with Qi and these acupoints are where the Qi is most attainable and easily stimulated. The disposable, sterile needles will sit in place for 30 to 45 minutes whilst you relax or may be quickly removed, depending on the treatment principles.
